魔戒配乐里的合唱

魔戒原声里有大量的合唱,有男声,女声,童声等等,当然还有魅影般的女声独唱.通常那些合唱的歌词都是有意义的,多数不是英文,而是矮人语,精灵语,还有Black Language,就是半兽人的语言.作者故意将歌词翻成其他中土语言,存心不让人明白,却给整个音乐添了一曾神秘感,历史感.

举两个例子.ROTK里Sam背起Frodo那一幕,配乐是属于The Black Gate Opens那一段的.这一幕有精灵语的合唱.歌词标题叫The Argument,是这个意思:

Lie down, sleep. I cannot yield.
Why do you still hope? I have nothing else.
You are a fool. I will not leave him.
You owe him nothing. I gave him my word.
Death will break it. Then let Death break it.

He has the last of my heart. I will go with him to the end.

这段歌词是讲Sam的,讲他的内心挣扎.歌词除了最后两句,前面的每两句都是一对争辩.这段歌词在原著中是一整章,叫做The Choices of Master Samwise.电影没有篇幅表现Sam的挣扎,却用最最含蓄的方式把它隐藏在配乐里.唱出来是这样的:

Caedo,losto. U-erin davo.
Amman harthach? Anim unad.
Le tug nach. O hon u-wannathon.
U-moe le anno nad. Onen a hon beth nin.
Gurth han ristatha. Ta han narcho Gurth.

Gar vethed e-chunen, go hon bedithon na meth.

这是精灵语,是Sindarin. 基本上,就是存心不让人懂.好象九阴真经的最后一段.哈哈.

这样的例子很多,比如老鹰飞到Mount Doom把Sam和Frodo背走那段,背景女声独唱(by Renee Fleming)的歌词意义是这样的:

The Eagles

In a dream I was lifted up.
Borne from the darkness above rivers of fire.
On wings soft as the wind.
What\'s happened to the world?
Is everything sad going to come untrue?

唱词如下:
